OPD full form is Out-Patient Department, which means that here the patient doesn’t get admitted to the hospital, and the treatment and diagnosis is provided by the doctor in a consultation room of the hospital or the clinic. For instance, if you are suffering from a cold or flu, you don’t get admitted to the hospital, instead you visit a general physician, who diagnoses you and usually prescribes medicines, and you are free to go home. Whereas IPD or In-Patient Department is where patients are admitted in the ward and treated as per their needs. Finally, we have the Emergency ward, which as the name suggests, patients who require urgent attention are treated. Emergency services are available 24/7 in hospitals while OPDs have a set timing that hospitals follow.

NICU/PICU: NICU offers critical care treatment to babies while PICU treatment young children.
